Practicing for VALDEZ: Bobby, age 17, practiced 4-5 days a week for the 5 months leading up to Valdez. He did 10-20 or more landings over a line per day. We were practicing the night after the Airmen's Show in Anchorage, over a line on a big gravel bar on this river. After maybe 25 landings, Bobby was ready for a break. Here is what he went off and did. He must have been looking at this small gravel island on downwind during his practices, and decided to have a go at it..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6B8-PNYjzk&feature=related

A must see dramatic landing and takeoff during practice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCf-dhDMJXg

So, with those adventures put aside for the moment, back to the Alaska Airpark. Near Skilak Lake and the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, the Alaska Airpark is far from the restrictions of Class D and other congested airspace, yet within 20 minutes driving time from Soldotna.
